We ask that each Little Leaper have a caregiver to participate with them (to the best of their ability) and help facilitate learning. It is okay if your little dancer is not fully participating as long as they are staying safe. Participation is different for each dancer. While one dancer may participate fully with their undivided attention, another little dancer may want to just watch in your lap first or explore a concept in a different way (tapping their shaker eggs together instead of shaking them). Again, as long as they are staying safe, they are learning!
Actions that we consider unsafe are:
-
Climbing the cubbies
-
Hanging from/flipping on the ballet barres mounted to the walls
-
Running full speed into the mirrors
-
Throwing hard plastic props (shaker eggs, rhythm sticks, cones, etc.)
-
Hitting/kicking friends or trying to pick them up off the ground
If your little dancer is doing one of these actions or anything you consider unsafe, please gently reroute their attention back to what the class is doing.
If your dancer is observing or not wanting to do a certain activity (won’t try standing on the "tall mountain" during obstacle course time, is leery about traveling on the balance beam) this is not considered a bad behavior or "not listening." They will participate when they are ready, just give them time! They are taking it all in!
Please note: How you discipline your child is your choice but while on the premises of Studio Chassé there will be no spanking, hitting, shouting, or threatening of any kind by parents, caregivers, guardians, etc. to a child. We consider this abuse, and it will not be tolerated in our presence. Click here for more about class management and safety at Studio Chassé.
Please note that this class does NOT participate in the winter or spring showcase.
Little Leapers (Caregiver & Me)
CAREGIVERS, OBSERVERS, & SIBLINGS
A Little Leaper may have up to 2 caregivers participate during a class and 2 observers, so 4 grown-ups total. Only one caregiver is needed but we understand family wanting to observe. A full class (8 Little Leapers) has room for up to 4 grown-ups per Little Leaper.
Siblings are welcome to participate or attend in carrier. Please make any sibling attending an account in the parent portal to cover them on our liability waiver.
LOCATION
-
19 Centre Court, Lake Monticello/Palmyra
ARRIVAL
-
Our doors are open when the pink "Let's Dance" signs are lit up, approximately 10 minutes before the first class of the day. (Please do not yank on the doors if the signs are not lit.)
-
Have your dancer place their outside shoes in a cubby and use the restroom/wash their hands before class. We have two restrooms at the end of the hall.
-
After using the restroom, you can head into Studio A.
-
Water bottles, purses, bags & other belongings can be put inside Studio A.
-
No worries if you are late! Oftentimes rushing to get to class on time can cause a child to become anxious or upset. Reassure your dancer (and yourself) that no one is in trouble! Quietly enter through the Studio A door by the restrooms after taking off your shoes in the hallway and washing your hands/using the restroom.
ATTIRE
-
We dance barefoot in both classes. Caregivers can wear socks, but our dancers need to be barefoot - it helps with traction AND going barefoot strengthens feet and improves body alignment.
-
All dancers (caregivers included) should wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement.
-
Leotards and tights can be worn but are NOT required. T-shirt and leggings/athletic shorts or a dress with shorts are also acceptable dance attire.
-
If your dancer is wearing tights, please be sure they are transition or footless tights.
-
Please no denim, jeans, restrictive fabrics, or pant/shorts with excessive buttons/zippers.
