Important Info/updates for the 2026 - 2027 Ensemble Dance Year
Members of Studio Chassé Ensemble choose dance as their activity of focus.
Being a member of Ensemble at Studio Chassé is a special achievement. Think of it as being a member of an all-stars sports team for a school or organization. Just as your personal schedule is planned around an all-stars sport (practice and games), Ensemble is the same commitment. Ensemble is NOT a competition team. Members of Ensemble are allowed and encouraged to take additional classes from other dance studios and organizations. Ensemble members, however, can NOT be in a performing/competition team/company at another studio or organization as it is a conflict of interest.
Ensemble is a year-long commitment.
Each dance year has two showcases; one in December for our Fall/Winter Semester, and one in May for our Winter/Spring Semester. Both our Winter & Spring Showcases are MANDATORY for Ensemble members. By being in Ensemble you are committing to 2 dances in each showcase (Ensemble performance piece & Ensemble production number), BOTH semesters of dance (a full dance year), and BOTH Showcases (December 2026 & May 2027).
Each Ensemble learns TWO dances for each showcase.
Each semester, Ensemble members have a performance piece and a production number piece. The performance piece only includes your specific Ensemble and is the dance we take to events to perform all semester. It is performed in the showcase. The production number includes ALL of the Ensembles (Mini, Youth, Junior, Intermediate, Elite) and is ONLY performed at the showcase for that semester (unless stated otherwise).
Youth & Junior Ensembles require a prerequisite class, as well as dancer attendance to at least 2 out of the 3 specialty classes each semester.
To ensure dancers are properly warmed up and continue needed technique training, Youth Ensemble members are required to take the Jazz I / Musical Theatre Class scheduled before their weekly Ensemble Class. Junior Ensemble members are required to take either the Jazz II / Musical Theatre OR the Jazz II / Hip-Hop class scheduled before their weekly Ensemble class. The prerequisite classes are NOT MANDATORY for showcase participation, but are encouraged. Additional technique classes are strongly recommended for level advancement, but not required for Ensemble participation.
Unlike regular technique classes, specialty classes are a little longer and focus in on variating a specific skill-set; turns, leaps, handstands, etcetera. There will be a specialty class in September, October, and November of 2026 for our Fall/Winter Semester, and a specialty class in January, February, and March of 2027 for our Winter/Spring Semester. Attendance to any 2 specialty classes a semester is required, though all 3 are recommended. Payment for specialty classes are charged to the card on file at the time of enrollment. They are $25 per specialty class and each 1 hour 30 minutes long. *Specific dates for Specialty Classes will be released with our 2026 Fall/Winter Schedule in June.
Studio Chassé Ensembles participate in multiple community performances, festivals, workshops, and events each semester.
In the Fall/Winter Semester, there tends to be about 3 - 5 Ensemble performances other than the showcase. In The Winter/Spring Semester, there's usually only 2 - 3. Performances are always on weekends, and are informed about at least 1 month - 1 Semester in advance. Every year, our Ensembles take their Winter/Spring performance piece to Kings Dominion Dance Festival; an ALL DAY EVENT at Kings Dominion Amusement Park in Doswell Virginia. Since we've attended the Festival has always been held on the Saturday or Sunday the second weekend of April. This is the only performance other than both showcases that is MANDATORY for Ensemble members. That means if you are a family that goes out of town for spring break or any other trips, that you plan accordingly already knowing this information if you want to do Ensemble. Other events our Ensembles have performed at in the past include: the Fluvanna County Fair, Central Elementary's Fall Festival, Ix Park's Fantasy Festival, Fluvanna Family Fun Day, the Barracks Road Holiday Parade, as well as more.
Ensemble is not guaranteed.
Having an Ensemble assessment does NOT mean your dancer is automatically in Ensemble. The dancer has to first pass the assessment and then be given a placement by our director (Ms. Michelle). Even if the dancer has previously been in an Ensemble, they are not guaranteed a spot for the 2026-2027 dance year. Each Ensemble needs a minimum of 4 dancers to run. If the Ensemble your dancer was assessed for does not meet the minimum enrollment, that Ensemble does not run and your dancer is NOT in Ensemble for the 2026-2027 dance year.
